This WonderTube consists of NS-65 Cherry encased with a layer of Simax clear. The clear layer protects the Cherry from scuzzing or bubbling, lets the tubing work very easily, and lets it soak in the heat needed to shape into perfection. Cherry is the most eye-catching member of Northstar's intense opaque family - a bright candy apple red that is well suited for blown work and stringer application. Worked bare, Cherry is slightly sensitive to reduction and to heat, and has to be kept in a soft neutral flame to keep it from boiling. The Simax encasement does that shielding for you. Odd and second quality tubing is the same NS-65 Cherry under the same Simax encasement, set aside for cosmetic and dimensional variance rather than color problems. Expect more variation in diameter, wall thickness, and taper than a first, along with the occasional air line or surface mark. It works exactly like first quality in the torch. Because this tubing is hand pulled, sizing will vary. We recommend pre-heating each tube in the kiln at 1050F for 20-30 minutes before bringing it to the torch to avoid loss from thermal shock.
